We won a subscription to ScienceFlixScienceFlix combines curriculum-driven resources, interactive features, and an easy to use interface for students in grades 4 through 9. Read information about science topics, watch videos, create projects, take quizzes and more.  You can also get information on creating science experiments and careers in science.  Information provided includes citations and lexile numbers. You will need a library card from the Town of Ballston Community Library (begins with 10007).

Preschool Programs

Fall Session 1 September 8 – October 10

Baby Bookworms
Tuesdays at 9:30 AM & Fridays at 9:30 AM

We will share simple stories, songs and finger plays as well as activities using music and movement.  For children birth to 23 months with a caregiver; sibling are welcome. *Registration required.  Please note you are registering for the entire session, attendance each week is appreciated but not required.

Family Story Time
Wednesdays at 10:30 AM & Fridays at 10:30 AM
Join us while we read books, sing, do finger plays and movement activities to promote early literacy.  This program is designed for two and three-year-olds accompanied by a caregiver.  This is a drop-in program and siblings are welcome.

Preschool Story Time
Mondays at 1:30 PM & Thursdays at 9:30 AM
Share early literacy skills with your child at this 30 minute program which includes a craft.  For children ages 3, 4, or 5 who are accompanied by a caregiver.  Registration is required and siblings are welcome.  Please note you are registering for the entire session, attendance each week is appreciated but not required.

Music Medley
Tuesdays at 10:30 AM
Join us for a family style sing along led by our favorite musician Miss Terri! This 30 minute sing-along is for preschoolers of all ages.  This is a drop in program and siblings, parents, grandparents and friends are welcome!

Clay Creations with Dragonfly Design Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 PM Enjoy the last days of Summer Vacation by sculpting clay.  For grades K-5.  *Registration required.

Recycled Books Wednesday, September 3 at 1:30 PM Repurpose old books into book marks and beads!  For grades K-5.  *Registration required.

Read to Leela Thursday, September 4 at 4:00 PM Thursday, October 2 at 4:00 PM Leela is a certified therapy dog who is happy to sit quietly and listen appreciatively to any story you wish to read.  This is a drop in program for all ages.

Brown Bag Book Club Thursday, September 11 at 4:00 PM Thursday, October 9 at 4:00 PM A brand new book club!  In September we’re discussing Bink & Gollie by Kate DiCamillo.  For grades 1-2.  *Registration required, please pick up a copy of the book at the desk in the Children’s Room.

Booking Through Fiction Book Club Thursday, September 18 at 4:00 PM A fiction book club just for kids in Grades 3 & 4.  In September we’re discussing Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo.  For grades 3-4.  *Registration required, please pick up a copy of the book at the desk in the Children’s Room.

Scribbles & Tales Wednesday, September 24 at 4:00 PM Listen to stories and do crafts!  This is an inclusive program for children of all levels of ability in Grades K-1.  *Registration required.

Lego Club Wednesday, September 24 at 4:00 PM Do you love to build with Legos? Join the Library’s Lego Club!  We will provide the Legos, so you only need to bring your imagination. Lego donations are very welcome.  For grades 2-5.  *Registration required.

Star Wars Reads Day Saturday, October 11 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day and master the art of reading! This event for the whole family includes games, trivia, giveaways, and a chance to win great Star Wars prizes.

Book Buzz Book Club
Friday, September 19 at 4:00 PM
A Book Club for kids who love to read and do crafts!  In September we’re discussing Wonder by R.J. Palacio.  For grades 5-7.  *Registration required, please pick up a copy of the book at the desk in the Children’s Room.

Monster Design
Thursday, September 25 at 1:30 PM
Create all things monster!  Make a duct tape monster, a monster cookie and a monster magnet for your lockers.  For grades 6 – 12.  *Registration required.

VolunTeens—VolunTeens are an important part of the library. Students in grades 6-12 have the opportunity to be VolunTeens and earn community service hours. If you’re interested in being a VolunTeen on a regular basis or just for special events throughout the school year please email Rebecca at rdarling@sals.edu

Burnt Hills Teen Reading Club
The Town of Ballston Community Library’s virtual book discussion group for tweens and teens, grades 6 – 12. Open to anyone who would like to join. Find us on Goodreads.com. Enjoy book discussions, trivia and raffles.

 

The Town of Ballston Community Library provides programming for all ages. All programs are free of charge. Certain programs require registration and may have age or space requirements. Registered participants must meet the age requirements for the program but siblings are always welcome.

Registering For Programs: To register for a program please stop at the Library’s circulation desk or call 399-8174 ext. 2. For our Preschool Programs you are registering for the entire session. Attendance each week is appreciated but not required.

Weather Delays: If the weather is bad, calling before you visit the Library is a good idea. When Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake cancels classes we cancel our programs. Please call ahead or check our website.

Food Allergy Alert (FAA): Please be aware a number of our programs serve refreshments or involve food. Contact Youth Services with questions before registering or attending.
